The Four Cs

Understanding Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat

01

Cut — The Most Important C

Cut determines how a diamond interacts with light. A well-cut diamond returns light directly to the eye as brilliance (white light), fire (spectral colour), and scintillation (the pattern of bright and dark areas). ReAurra sources only Excellent and Ideal-cut stones. A poorly cut diamond of high colour and clarity will appear dull; a well-cut stone of modest grade will sing.

02

Colour — The Subtlest C

The GIA colour scale runs from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow). The difference between adjacent grades is invisible to the untrained eye, but cumulatively significant. ReAurra works within the D–H range — the window in which colour is imperceptible in a face-up stone. Beyond H, warmth becomes visible in larger stones.

03

Clarity — The Most Misunderstood C

Clarity grades the presence of inclusions (internal) and blemishes (surface). The GIA scale runs from Flawless (FL) to Included (I3). ReAurra sources VS2 and above — at VS2, inclusions are not visible to the naked eye under any reasonable viewing condition. Paying premium prices for IF or FL clarity is rarely justified in stones under five carats.

04

Carat — The Most Visible C

Carat is a unit of weight (0.2 grams), not size. Two diamonds of the same carat weight can appear very different in size depending on their cut proportions. A deeply cut diamond hides weight in its pavilion; a well-cut stone of the same weight will appear larger. Always assess a diamond in person before purchasing on carat weight alone.

05

The Fifth C — Certificate

Every ReAurra diamond above 0.5ct is accompanied by a GIA, GRS, or Gübelin certificate. These independent laboratories are the only authorities whose grades we accept without question. A certificate from an unknown or house grading laboratory is worth precisely nothing as a resale document.
